green machine
Me and my friend are working on a blog and a website for green machine! We have started selling stuff from our little company, but only to friends. If you would like to buy something from green machine, just leave a comment. I will put up pictures. Or you can scroll down, to find out more about green machine.
Sorry
I know I haven't written in a while but I was waiting for news to come. As you can see on the side there is a poll question. If you look at this blog and don't leave a comment that is totally fine. Just please at least put in your opinion on the poll.
Thanks!

Green Machine
Me and one of my friends make art for our friends. It is not normal art though. We make it out of old magazines and newspapers, and we use old felt and fabric to make stuffed animals. We call it Green Machine because everything we make is made from things that are either recycled or reused. We have made some necklaces out of laminated pieces of magazines and newspapers. We have made little stuffed bunnies and mice out of reused fabric. We are working on making a website to tell people about Green Machine. Please keep reading this blog to find out more about Green Machine.

today in eco-tech school
Although Doe Run did not start the contamination in La Oroya, the company has certainly contributed to the problem that it inherited. Today, the Doe Run smelter emits about 1,000 tons of toxic pollution into the community daily. The company has largely delayed major actions that would clean up and/or significantly lessen the pollution, and the Peruvian national government has been more than lenient with the corporation. One of the most odious instances of this negligence came after Doe Run's attempt to postpone their environmental responsibilities "due to financial hardship," even though the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission showed that the company sent $130 million in "commissions and consulting fees" back to its headquarters in St. Louis.

Gowanus canal superfund!
The Gowanus canal has been superfunded! That means that the government has gotten involved to clean it up. The Gowanus is now titled a polluted site until it gets cleaned up. The process of cleaning it may take 10 to 15 years, but by the end the water will be clear, and people might even be able to swim in it, and there will finally be life

Recycling

Recycling is another great way to help the earth. One of the main reasons why it's so good and helpful is that it's really easy so everyone can do it. Also, recycling even just one piece of paper makes a difference. It's a lot better than using the garbage when you can recycle. The recycling symbol is three arrows making a triangle. The reason there are three arrows is that "reduce, reuse & recycle" are pretty much the three steps of recycling. When you recycle you get to reuse things instead of wasting them.

green store

This is my second post about Greenpoint. It is a little bit strange how the word green sort of stands for the ideas, earth, enviorment, helping the earth, and green point actually has alot of green things in it. I already talked a little bit about the Habana Out Post, except there is also a store in Greenpoint that only sells earth friendly things. I have a clock from there that runs completely on water. I know it is only a small clock and that normal clocks don't waist very much energy, except the water clock doesn't use any electricity. I have the orange one.

solar panels

Not very many houses have solar panels. They're very expensive. Also I don't think people realize how good it is to have solar panels. There is a restaurant in Fort Green called the Habana Outpost that is powered by solar energy. They are closed in the winter because there is not enough sun to power the solar panel. Also Hidden Valley Camp has a solar heated pool. Most swimming pools that are heated use lots of energy that pollutes the earth, but at Hidden Valley Camp their swimming pool only uses solar heat, and when it is not sunny out it saves the energy from a sunny day so that the pool is always warm. Yay solar panels.

Eco Tech School

At PS 58, The Carroll School, there is an after-school program called Eco Tech School. In Eco Tech School everyone is working on a project to help La Oroya, a part of Peru which is one of the five most polluted areas in the world.
All of the students in Eco Tech School are making a movie, a blog, and some art projects, and at the end of the program we will have made enough money from the movie, the art and the blog to have a trip to Peru and let the kids from La Oroya come to Brooklyn.
